CAPTAIN'S
CORNER
A message from the Captain
With our boats safely tucked away for the
winter we can only reminisce now about last season and dream about
the sailing season ahead. I think last season was one of the best,
from the Memorial Day Weekend Rendezvous to the Good Speed Opera
on Labor Day Weekend the weather was extraordinary. The seas were
calm and the winds blew mostly in our favor for a change. The
tide and the current were our only variables since the events
and activities were already planned ahead by our gracious hosts.
The cruise to New York City and West Point was absolutely wonderful
and our first annual Grandparents Weekend Rendezvous at West Neck
Harbor on Shelter Island was a great success particularly in the
eyes of the grandchildren.
There are a number of new events planned for next season like
the Safety & Skills day and the Moonlight Sail to Block Island
in addition to the annual Memorial Day Weekend Rendezvous and
our 2nd annual Grandparents Weekend Rendezvous. The 2009 Cruise
committee is also putting together a spectacular two week summer
cruise to Cape Cod and the Catalina East Coast Rendezvous will
also be held sometime next season. A number of boats have already
registered for the summer cruise and responded affirmatively to
the other events on the membership forms.
I would like to thank all of you who volunteered to host an event,
serve on a committee or coordinate a rendezvous this past season
and those of you who have participated as well. The energy and
camaraderie within our Fleet is strong and membership and participation
remain at an all time high. We are a diverse group of people and
boats and although we may not always agree on the same route,
we always manage to come together as a Fleet.
Yes, I'm sad the season has come to an end but I'm excited about
next season and as I enter my final year as Captain I remain even
more optimistic and enthusiastic about the future of our Fleet.
Keila and I hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday season
and we are looking forward to seeing all of you at the first Fleet
5 event of the 2009 season.
